The project takes place in the logistic centre of the brewery. The beer should be conditioned in a cooled logistic area. In this space it is crucial to make the best use of the available floor area. Previously Duvel could only stack three pallets on top of each other. But IMA has been able to create 25% more capacity by making it possible to stack pallets four high.
To do this, IMA designed a system in which, first, two pallets of beer crates are introduced via forklift, after which the machine automatically places MDF separator plates on the top layer of the presented pallet. This is done without the intervention of an operator and with a high degree of positioning accuracy. After conditioning, the stacked pallets are brought back from the logistic area and the separators are automatically removed and placed in a buffer magazine for re-use.
For this, IMA worked out a solution by combining the following technologies:
Positioning, vacuum technologies, XZ manipulator with long-reach, servo technologies, special attention to collision safety and the ergonomics of the forklift driver.
