… then we would already be hearing some great stories about the new IMA building.
For once, in this column, we’re not letting people speak—but rather “the building behind the machine.” IMA’s new home in Maldegem is still very new, and yet it already has a lot to say!
“As a business building, I’ve been incredibly lucky. First and foremost, the location that IMA chose for me: ‘De Campagne,’ a site that’s fully committed to sustainability. It focuses on renewable energy, water management, green spaces with fruit trees, and walking trails. As one of the first buildings here, I have a beautiful view of the blossoming nature and the cyclists and hikers on the trail behind me.
IMA has poured so much love, care, and quality into me that I now naturally radiate a certain warmth. It’s so nice that the design also made room for aesthetics and coziness. They clearly listened to the wishes of the people who work here. The IMA DNA is fully embedded in it. I even got “tattoos” with cool quotes in various places!
An internal project team coordinated the new construction. Céline brought a feminine touch to this male-dominated environment. For example, she insisted on having a full-fledged kitchen here, and you can bet it’s already getting plenty of use! It’s lovely to see the whole team eating lunch together at the long, high table, or around the smaller tables—and when the weather’s nice, even on the rooftop. At the monthly after-work drinks, I see them relaxing on the couch or letting loose with pool and darts. Yeah, you can’t really call this a cafeteria anymore. At IMA, they refer to it as their “lounge.”

But let’s not forget that, above all, people work hard here. Both the studio and the office spaces are pleasant and ergonomically designed. To start with, they gave me an excellent orientation. And then they incorporated all the latest technologies: climate-controlled ceilings, dimmable LED lighting, attention to acoustics and natural light… Each team’s space is tailored to its specific needs. Collaborating without disturbing others? Yes! There are multifunctional spaces for working and holding meetings. For long phone calls, there are separate phone booths.
Céline – IMA Business Developer: “Team spirit is important at IMA. The office layout is designed to encourage collaboration and relaxation together.”
And then there’s the studio. Ohlala! It’s four times as big as the previous location and many times more comfortable. It has everything that makes workshop staff happy: natural light and special LED lighting, internet access everywhere, and compressed air on hand. Two large loading docks and two large overhead cranes also make a world of difference. There’s even a separately equipped welding shop and an electrical corner. The workshop is also set up to operate completely paperless.
