Challenge
The stretch hood machine used for packaging stacks of insulation panels was not running in sync with the feed from the production line. A transport system was required with a delivery speed that would match the stretch hood machine’s maximum capacity as closely as possible. Accordingly, it is also essential for there to be no need to interrupt the production line, even if the packaging machine falters for a moment.
An additional request was to make it possible to feed stacks from a different line – with different formats and weights – into the transport system occasionally.
Solution
IMA came up with the engineering, construction and control system for a transport system that initially delivers the stacks to the stretch hood machine at a maximum speed.
In the event of a problem with the machine, the stacks can be sent in the opposite direction at the push of a button. There they will be removed manually so that the production line can keep running. These stacks can then be packaged later.
Stacks from other production lines can also be placed on the conveyor system manually for packaging.
Added value
The addition of this entirely new installation means that the stacks are transferred from the production line to the stretch hood machine in a single movement. The stability of the voluminous packages during transport has been improved considerably.
Manual operations are now no longer necessary during normal production. The system also offers the flexibility to store the stacks temporarily, or exceptionally to package stacks from other lines.
